Air Jordans are a unique brand of shoes produced by the Nike Company. They were originally introduced in 1985 soon after which they gained reputation owing to their use by the famous basketball legend, Michael Jordan. After this momentous occasion in the history of the Air Jordan shoes, they began becoming famous among sportspersons all over the world. Ever since, every year, new brands of Air Jordan sports shoes are being released into the market, even after the retirement of Michael Jordan, a practice that depicts the huge success of the model. The Air Jordan shoes are manufactured by the Jordan Company, which is actually a sister concern of the Nike Shoe Company. Every year, new Air Jordan models are being released, which, in spite of being relatively more expensive compared to other brands have tasted greater success owing to their reputation. Air Jordan shoes are named in order, i.e. Air Jordan I, Air Jordan II, Air Jordan III, and so on. Let us now examine the details about a few of the Air Jordan models.
Air Jordan I:
These were the first prototypes of the Air Jordan shoes. Ironically, these shoes were a failure as soon as they hit the market, in 1985. They were designed by Peter Moore essentially for basketball players. The shoes gained negative reputation, in the sense that they were banned by the National Basketball Association, because the gaudy black and red color combination of the shoes violated the design specifications of the association. Although this was a setback to the sales of these shoes, it ensured that the Air Jordans became famous. Even Michael Jordan had cast aside these shoes, saying they were too vibrant for his liking. He called them, the "devil's shoes". Years later, in 1994, the original Air Jordan I was retroed and released in the market. Once again they were met with failure. Manufacturers were forced to sell Air Jordan for as low as $20. Then, in 2001, when they were retroed yet again, they were a major hit in the market.
Air Jordan II: The Air Jordan II model has an interesting history to consider. Initially designed by Eric Huber of Kings College, these were introduced into the basketball scenario in 1986. However, they were not much preferred, owing to the high price. An Air Jordan II pair of shoes cost $100, which was a princely sum in the 1980s. It was unique in the sense that it had a combination of Italian leather and faux lizard skin on the sides. The turning point of these shoes was in a match again Golden State, when Michael Jordan, who was sporting Air Jordan II, accidentally broke his ankle. However, the public attributed the fracture to the poor design of the shoes and once again, the Air Jordan shoes faced a setback. These models too, when retroed in 1994 were sold poorly, but in 2001, which seemed to be an auspicious year for the Air Jordan shoes, sold quite well.
